It’s too late to say goodnight
The man beneath him shivers and twists, arching upwards to gain more contact, and Erik can’t withhold the quiet noise that escapes the back of his throat. If he wasn’t already feeling so sexually frustrated, he would be annoyed at the small slip of control.
Instead, he answers Charles with a soft hiss, teeth sinking into the top of one pale shoulder briefly. “You’re very bad at this game, Charlie,” he mutters almost incoherently, one hand releasing the other man’s arm in order to slip downwards, under the waistband of his cotton pants. Fingers brush over the hot skin of his inner thigh, drawing circular patterns with an icy-cold touch.
Charles doesn’t know if Erik can see the wide smirk on his lips from making the older man break just a tiny bit of his control, but it matters little. He feels a pleasant little thrill of triumph all the same, for being able to get under the other’s skin just so.
Not that Erik can’t get him back seven-fold.
He whines softly at the teasing, a desperate slip of a sound as his hips jerk into Erik’s touch, his chest rising with pauses as his breath develops a troubling habit of catching in his throat at each new press of finger to his thighs.
The prickling sensation of feeling too much, too clearly, too perfectly, quietly spreads until he feels feverish and the back of his throat aches with craving. It’s probably from the lack of sleep, but even more so, the overabundance of Erik.
His free hand curves around Erik’s neck as his words curl into their skin.
"Love anything and your heart will be wrung and possibly broken. If you want to make sure of keeping it intact you must give it to no one, not even an animal. Wrap it carefully round with hobbies and little luxuries; avoid all entanglements. Lock it up safe in the casket or coffin of your selfishness. But in that casket, safe, dark, motionless, airless, it will change. It will not be broken; it will become unbreakable, impenetrable, irredeemable. To love is to be vulnerable."
